Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu has said that cargo operations have been witnessing consistent growth over the past few years, with volumes increasing by nearly 40 per cent.
Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr Naidu said that the government wants to create global-standard air cargo hubs and facilities across the country. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasised expanding the logistics network in the country. He said that FedEx and GMR Airport have entered into a partnership to create a dedicated air cargo facility at Delhi airport.
On the Air India Phuket-Delhi flight incident, Mr Naidu said that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is conducting an investigation and the preliminary report will come soon. The incident occurred on the 4th of this month when the Delhi-bound aircraft from Phuket experienced a sudden loss of altitude of approximately 300 feet during cruise.
