Afghanistan Strongly Condemns Pakistani Airstrikes at United Nations

Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations has strongly condemned the Pakistani airstrikes in the provinces of Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar, which killed and injured several Afghan civilians, including women and children. The mission called on Pakistan to immediately halt all military strikes on Afghan territory and ensure full accountability for alleged violations of international law. The statement followed confirmation by Taliban Deputy Spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat that Pakistani airstrikes carried out on the night of June 28, killed 36 civilians and injured 163 others.

The Afghan mission said the strikes constituted a serious violation of Afghanistan’s territorial integrity and were inconsistent with international law, including the Charter of the United Nations. It urged the United Nations and the wider international community to closely monitor the situation, reaffirm the principles of the UN Charter, and insist on respect for Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The airstrikes have drawn widespread international concern. UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged all parties to protect civilians. The European Union also called for restraint and de-escalation, stressing that international humanitarian law must be respected at all times and that civilians must be protected.

Earlier, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of Pakistan’s Embassy in Kabul to lodge a strong protest.
