Afghanistan: 22 killed, 35 Injured in Refugee Truck Accident

In Afghanistan, 22 people were killed and 35 others injured after a truck carrying Afghan refugees returning from Pakistan overturned on a highway in Laghman province today. Officials said the victims included 10 children and five women. The provincial director of public health, Aminullah Sharif, said the truck veered off the road and fell into a ditch after the driver reportedly fell asleep. The passengers were among thousands of Afghans who have recently returned from Pakistan following Islamabad’s crackdown on undocumented migrants, launched in 2023.

Since then, many Afghans have been deported or compelled to leave the country amid increasing pressure from Pakistani authorities.
