Seven suspected Bangladeshi nationals have been detained by police from the Baligram area under Lalgola police station in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal and sent to a holding centre. The seven were detained yesterday.
According to police, all of them are residents of different areas in Bangladesh’s Rajshahi district. They allegedly entered India illegally through the India-Bangladesh border several months ago and later travelled to southern India in search of work. About a week ago, they returned to Lalgola by train via Sealdah and began staying at a location in Bali village.
Local residents reportedly became suspicious after noticing several unfamiliar people in the area over the past two days. They informed the police, following which a team from the Lalgola police station reached the area and detained the seven. Police are investigating their alleged illegal entry into India and their movements since entering the country.
