Thirty-six sportspersons and three coaches from Manipur are representing India at 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya in Japan. The Games kicked off today and will continue till 4th October. The Games bring together athletes from across Asia in one of the continent’s largest multi-sport events.
The sportspersons from Manipur are part of India’s 499-member contingent participating in Sepaktakraw, Rowing, Cycling, Fencing, Canoeing & Kayaking, Boxing, Weightlifting, Wushu, Judo and Hockey. The 36 athletes comprise 12 in Sepaktakraw, 1 in Rowing, 3 in Cycling, 3 in Fencing, 6 in Canoeing & Kayaking, 1 in Boxing, 3 in Weightlifting, 3 in Wushu, 1 in Judo and 3 in Hockey.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh congratulated all the sportspersons and coaches on earning the opportunity to represent the country at the Asian Games. He encouraged them to compete with confidence, discipline and determination and to give their best in their respective events.
