35th Nepali Language Constitutional Recognition Day has been observed today with great enthusiasm and joy by Nepali/ Gorkha Community in India. The Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has greeted the Gorkha people saying India is a multilingual country and this bond unites every India strongly, that is called unity in diversity. In his social media post he appealed to the Gorkha people to be part of Nation’s development journey to make it a developed nation by 2047.
On this day, 20th August 1992, by 71st constitutional amendment, the Indian Parliament unanimously passed the bill to include Nepali, Manipuri and Konkani languages for inclusion in 8th schedule of constitution and on 31st August the President of India gave his consent. Thus, this day is very important for the India Nepali Community in solving their national identity and decades of demand struggle.
Today, Nepali Language Recognition Day has been observed at more than a hundred places in Darjeeling Hills, Tarai -Doors of West Bengal. Thousands of youths, both male and female, along with renowned persons, took part in several events like shobha yatras, literary and cultural programmes in traditional dresses.
The State Tourism Minister Dr. Shanker Ghosh, Hill Affairs State Minister Bishal Lama, Finance State Minister Anandmoy Barman, MPs Harshvardhan Sringla, Raju Bist, Manoj Tigga, along with all other MLAs have greeted the people and expressed their commitment to foster, protect and propagate the Nepali Language. Local leaders like Bimal Gurung, Man Ghishing, Ajoy Edward, Anit Thapa have also greeted the people.)
