Russia has launched a fresh wave of drone attacks on Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine today, killing at least two people and injuring 23. The attacks came as Zelenskyy began a visit to the United States to address world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly.
According to Ukrainian officials in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, two men were injured after a Russian strike hit a shopping mall, triggering a large fire. The latest Russian attacks followed a series of Ukrainian strikes on targets inside Russia, including oil refineries that are considered important to the country’s energy sector and economy.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had carried out strikes against Ukrainian military-industrial and energy facilities, logistics centres and sea vessels. The latest exchange of attacks underscores the continuing intensity of long-range strikes between Russia and Ukraine, even as diplomatic efforts to explore possible steps towards reducing the fighting remain on the international agenda.
