The External Affairs Ministry today said that 166 Indian nationals have been rescued in Nepal so far after flash floods hit the neighbouring nation. Briefing media in New Delhi today, Spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal said, 275 Indian nationals remain missing. He said, India continue to be in close touch with the Nepali government. He said, India deeply appreciates the efforts of the Nepalese authorities in this regard. The Spokesperson said, the Ministry has been regularly releasing the names of Indians who have been rescued. Mr Jaiswal said, one thousand 907 Indian nationals have safely crossed into Nepal from China. He said, there are no Indian travelers who are stranded in the Tibetan Autonomous Region in China.
Regarding India’s support to flood ravaged Nepal, Mr Jaiswal said, India will continue to provide assistance as per the requirements of the Government of Nepal. He said, in the coming days India is planning to send more forensic kits, Bailey bridges, and other materials that are requested by the government of Nepal.
On the remarks of Nepal Foreign Minister, Mr Jaiswal said, India has consistently maintained that climate change is a common challenge, and action in this regard must be based on the principle of common differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities. He said, developed countries who historically are responsible for the emissions and have contributed overwhelmingly to the civil crisis, must take lead in reducing emissions and supporting developing countries by way of finance and technology transfer to meet this challenge.
On a media query on External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar’s visit to Ukraine, the Spokesperson said, Dr Jaishankar visited Kyiv and met with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha and called on President Zelenskyy. He said, during his conversations, the External Affairs Minister noted that India has consistently maintained that this is not an era of war and that the solution will not emerge from the battlefield. He also underlined Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments that endless war must now give way to the end of war, noting that this is that it is for the parties involved to find a way. Mr Jaiswal said, the visit of Dr Jaishankar was focused on exploring the prospects of dialogue and diplomacy. He said, India’s national interest guides the energy purchases and the imperative for it is to meet the energy requirements of 1.4 billion people.
On the Greater Malé Connectivity Project, Mr Jaiswal said, India is a leading development partner for the Maldives. He said, India have undertaken several projects in the country, which continue to bring a lot of value to the people of the Maldives. He added that the Greater Malé Connectivity Project is a project that connects the capital, Malé, with three islands and the first segment of the Project has been completed.
On a Tamil Nadu woman named Vanitha who was rescued after a desperate SOS from Kuwait, Mr Jaiswal said, when the Indian embassy came to know of the issue, they gave her a helping hand and as of now, she is with the embassy. He said, Ministry of External Affairs remain committed to doing its best for the well-being, safety, and welfare of Indian nationals abroad.
On the comments of the Mayor of Birmingham, Zaker Choudhry, regarding Kashmir, he said that the whole of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts India.
