Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 16 crore houses have been provided with piped water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil announced this today at an event titled Water Conservation in India: Challenges & Solutions, organised by the Merchant Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Kolkata. He stated that an additional 3 crore houses will be connected under the scheme by December 2028.
At the same event, the Government of West Bengal appealed to large- and medium-scale industries to come forward and help save water bodies and promote water conservation. Agnimitra Paul, the state Minister for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, made this appeal during her address. She said that under the Corporate Social Responsibility, old water reserves could be conserved. Through this, endangered species could be saved and biodiversity could be protected.
