In Ladakh, 12th International Yoga Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium, Kargil, today. The programme began with participants witnessing the live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address from West Bengal on the occasion of International Yoga Day.
Deputy Commissioner Kargil Rakesh Kumar attended the event as the Chief Guest. Councillor LAHDC Kargil Advocate Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Superintendent of Police Kargil Nitin Yadav, ADDC Kargil Ghulam Mohammad, Former Chairman J&K Legislative Council and Vice President BJP Ladakh Haji Anayat Ali, BJP Kargil President Assadullah Munshi, BJYM Kargil President Hassanain Rocky, district officers, school children, and members of the public were also present.
Following the Prime Minister’s address, a mass yoga session was conducted under the guidance of yoga instructors from the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Kargil. The Deputy Commissioner and other dignitaries actively participated in the yoga asanas along with hundreds of participants.
Speaking with the media, Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar said that the entire district was celebrating the 12th International Yoga Day in line with the national theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”. He said yoga is beneficial for people of all age groups and plays an important role in maintaining physical fitness as well as mental well-being.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s message, the Deputy Commissioner emphasised that yoga should not remain confined to a single day of celebration but should become a way of life. He called for making yoga a 365-day practice and informed that the district administration would organise regular yoga sessions at different locations with trained instructors to encourage greater public participation.
The event concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to adopting yoga as a regular part of their daily routine for a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
