Twelve people have been killed and dozens remain missing after a vessel carrying traders capsized on Lake Kivu in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Authorities said the vessel, which was carrying more than 50 people, capsized last night near Idjwi Island in South Kivu province. Fifteen people have been rescued so far, while search and rescue operations are continuing.
The cause of the accident was not immediately known. The vessel was transporting fish traders and goods from Bwina on Idjwi Island to Boza when it capsized.
