Regional Passport Offices (RPOs) and Missions abroad delivered 1.5 crore passports and related services to Indian nationals in 2025. An official in the External Affairs Ministry informed that there has been a huge increase in PSKs and POPSKs, with 545 such Kendras across the country.
The MEA official said ten Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) were opened last year, and ten POPSKs will be opened this year as well. Another very important development has been the roll out of chip-enabled passports, which are stronger and more secure. Around 1.47 crore chip-enabled passports have been delivered so far.
The MEA official also said that the quality of infrastructure and service at PSKs and POPSKs is being upgraded. Efforts have been made to meet the needs of mothers and elderly children. Every effort is being made to make passport services more accessible and simple, as only 10% of the Indian population has a passport.
