In Telangana, devout Muslims across the state observed the ‘Youm-e Ashoora’ marking the tenth day of the Muharram month of the Hijri calendar. In Hyderabad, the Bibi ka Alam procession passed off peacefully from the Bibi ka Alawa at Dabeerpura. The procession passed through Yakutpura road, Etebar Chowk, Charminar, Mandi Mir Alam among others before culminating at Masjid e-Ilahi at Chaderghat covering a distance of around nine kilometres.
Several processions taken out at various parts of the city have culminated in the main procession while thousands of mourners joined the procession en-route and scores of members from the Shia community who marched along, flagellated themselves with sharp objects amidst the chants of ‘Ya Hussain’. Special prayers, meetings and feeding camps were organized across the city.
Processions have also been taken out at several other places across the state, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, grandson of Prophet Muhammad in the battle of Karbala that was fought centuries ago.
