Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju has said that radio is a trusted source of information, education and entertainment. Inaugurating the Radio Festival 2025 in New Delhi, on World Radio Day, Mr Jaju said, Akashwani is among the largest broadcasting organizations in the world and reaches 98 per cent of the population. He said, the radio connects people and plays an important role in fostering connection across nations and communities. Mr Jaju said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat has now become a transformative platform where the voice of common people is heard.
The Information and Broadcasting Secretary said, community radio has witnessed substantial growth in the last 11 years. Mr Jaju said the number of community radio stations has increased from 114 in 2014 to 530 in 2024. He said the community radio provides a platform to local farmers, Artisans, women entrepreneurs and young people to share their experiences.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General Akashvani Dr. Pragya Paliwal Gaur said, Akashvani is always committed to creating awareness among the people about climate change. She said the people have trust in the News as well as the ontent of the Akashvani programmes. Dr. Gaur said Akashvani is running several programmes to create awareness of climate change.
