World Liver Day is being observed across the globe today to raise awareness about liver diseases and encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle by avoiding oily and greasy foods.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), liver ailments are the 10th most common cause of death in India. Diseases like Hepatitis B, C and hepatocellular carcinoma often occur because of poor lifestyle choices, including excessive consumption of alcohol and drugs, prolonged intake of unhealthy foods, a sedentary lifestyle, and lack of exercise.
To commemorate this day, the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences is organizing Healthy Liver – Healthy India event in New Delhi. Home Minister Amit Shah will be the Chief Guest at this event.
The theme of this year’s World Liver Day is ‘Food is Medicine’. This theme emphasizes the crucial role of nutrition in maintaining liver health and in preventing liver diseases through a balanced diet high in whole foods. It highlights how dietary choices can support liver function and decrease the risk of metabolic issues.
