World Lion Day being celebrated today

World Lion Day is being celebrated today. The day is observed on 10th of August every year across the globe to raise awareness about their conservation and protection.

In Gujarat, World Lion Day will be celebrated through various programmes. The state-level celebration of World Lion Day will be held in the virtual presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel which will be live-streamed in over 8,500 educational institutions spanning ten districts of Saurashtra. During the programme, the Chief Minister will virtually launch Lion Anthem’ and unveil the Sinh Suchna' Web App. 

Akasahvani correspondent report: The Gir National Park of Gujarat is the only natural home of Asiatic lions in the world. Following the consistent efforts of the forest department and citizens, the number of Asiatic lions has surged to 674 as of June 2020. The increase in the population of the Asiatic lions has facilitated their movement in almost nine districts of Saurashtra. Talking to Akashvani, Deputy Conservator of Forest of Sasan-Gir National Park Mohan Ram said this year, World Lion Day will be celebrated through physical and virtual programmes to enhance people’s participation in the conservation of lions.
