World Habitat Day is being observed globally today. The day serves as a powerful reminder that everyone is entitled to a decent and safe place to live.

On this day, governments, communities, and individuals are urged to work toward improving housing conditions, creating secure environments, and making neighbourhoods safer.

This year’s theme is “Engaging Youth to Create a Better Urban Future,” focusing on the opportunities and challenges associated with rapid urban growth. The aim is to encourage the younger generation to participate in planning their current and future environments.

World Habitat Day was first celebrated in 1985 when the United Nations General Assembly designated the first Monday in October for this observance.
