Women’s HIL: Odisha Warriors beat Delhi SG Pipers 4-0

The inaugural Women’s Hockey India League (HIL) got underway with a glitzy ceremony where artists showcased the culture of Jharkhand in Ranchi yesterday. MLA Kalpana Soren unveiled the Women’s HIL trophy along with the captains of four teams. In the opening match, Odisha Warriors defeated Delhi SG Pipers 4-0. Yibbi Jansen scored two, while Baljeet Kaur and Freeke Moes scored one goal each for the Warriors. Yibbi Jansen won the Player of the Match award for her brace from penalty corners. Today, the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers will be up against JSW Soorma Hockey Club at Ranchi. The match will begin at 06:00 PM.

 

On the other hand, the Men’s HIL continued in Rourkela, where Hyderabad Toofans enjoyed a commanding win over the Vedanta Kalinga Lancers as they stormed to a 5-1 triumph at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium yesterday. Arshdeep Singh got a Player of the Match award for his last-minute goal for Toofans and his great display on the pitch. With this win, Toofans climbed to the second spot in the standings. Today, Tamil Nadu Dragons will lock horns with Delhi SG Pipers at Rourkela. The match will kick start at 08:15 PM.
