Women’s Cricket: India to resume their play at overnight score of 525 for four against South Africa in first inning

In Women’s Cricket, India will resume their play at the overnight score of 525 for four against South Africa in the first inning on Day 2 of the one-off Test match in Chennai this morning.

On day one, opting to bat first, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana displayed masterful batting, putting on the highest ever opening partnership of 292-runs in Women’s Test Cricket. This put India in a commanding position with imposing 525 for the loss of 4 wickets at stumps. Shafali also scripted history by scoring the fastest double ton in Test cricket with 205 runs off 197 balls. Mandhana made 149 runs off 161 deliveries.

The Women in Blue also broke an 89 year-old record for the most runs scored on a single day in Women’s Tests. The previous record was set by England women, who had scored 431/2 against New Zealand in Christchurch way back in 1935.
