In Telangana, the Women Self Help Groups are playing a key role in spreading voter awareness and in efforts to increase voting percentage.
Nearly 40 percent of women voters in the state, numbering about 65 lakh, are members in women self-help groups (SHGs) and could play a key role in deciding the results of elections.
The election authorities in Hyderabad are demonstrating voter awareness programmes along with the SHG members.
The women SHG members are seen approaching morning walkers in the parks of Hyderabad asking them to take part in voting, taking up in their localities house-to-house campaigns circulating pamphlets with voter information.
It may be known that Hyderabad and Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituencies reported the lowest voter turnout in the state at less than 50 percent during the previous Assembly and the Lok Sabha elections.
