Indian Women Hockey Team today reached Gaya to participate in the Women Asian Hockey Championship Trophy which will be held from 11th November to 20th November in Rajgir in Bihar. Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar will inaugurate the event on the 11th of November.
A warm welcome in the traditional way was accorded to the 18-player Indian squad led by captain Salima Tete. Five other nations China, Malaysia, Korea, Thailand and Japan will also take part in the international sports event which has been organized for the first time in Bihar at the newly constructed state-of-the-art International Sports Complex.
Talking to Akashvani News, District Magistrate of Gaya Dr. Thiyagarajan S.M. said, the other five teams will reach according to their schedule on later dates. He said the event is an opportunity to leverage and boost the tourism of Bihar as it has a lot to showcase. The DM said they will offer an aesthetically framed leaf of the Mahabodhi tree which symbolizes the enlightenment of Lord Buddha to the team and delegates with messages engraved in the concerned country.
Director General of Bihar Sports Authority Ravindran Shankaran said they will leave no stone unturned to host the international teams. He said, to make this occasion a grand event, they have planned several sideline events like cultural events and sports conclave, Hockey Pe Charcha.
