Wimbledon: Alexander Zverev crashes out of tournament; Novak Djokovic advances to quarterfinals

In Tennis, fourth-seed Alexander Zverev of Germany has crashed out of the Wimbledon tournament after losing to 13th-seeded American Taylor Fritz in Men’s Singles Round of 16. Zverev lost to Taylor 6-4, 7-6, 4-6, 6-7, 3-6.

 

In another Round of 16 match, seven-time champion and second seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated 15th-seeded Danish player Holger Rune 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals.

 

Top seed Jannik Sinner, 3rd seed Carlos Alcaraz Garfia, 5th seed Daniil Medvedev and 12th seed Tommy Paul have already entered Men’s Singles quarter-finals.

 

In Women’s singles, former champion and 4th-seeded Kazakhstani player Elena Rybakina has reached her third successive Wimbledon quarter-final. She defeated 17th-seeded Russian Anna Kalinskaya in 6-3, 3-0 in the Round of 16, after the latter retired hurt.

 

Elina Svitolina of Ukraine defeated Chinese Wang Xinyu 6-2, 6-1 in Round of 16 to reach the quarterfinal.

 

Former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia has also entered the quarter-final beating Kazakhstani player Yulia Putintseva 6-2, 6-3 in Round of 16.
