West Indies Secure Semifinal Spot in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Defeat England by 6 Wickets

In the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Cricket, the West Indies have advanced to the semifinals, defeating England by six wickets in Dubai last night. Choosing to field first, the Caribbean women restricted England to 141 for 7 in the stipulated 20 overs in the Group B fixture. Nat Sciver-Brunt was the standout performer for England, scoring 57 runs off 50 balls. For the West Indies, Afy Fletcher claimed three wickets.

 

In reply, the West Indies overhauled the target with 12 balls to spare. Openers Qiana Joseph and Hayley Matthews scored impressive half-centuries. Joseph was adjudged the Player of the Match.

 

Australia and New Zealand have advanced to the semifinals from Group A, while South Africa booked their semifinal berth from Group B, along with the West Indies. In the first semifinal, Australia will take on South Africa in Dubai tomorrow. In the second semifinal, the West Indies will face New Zealand on Friday in Sharjah. The final will be held on Sunday.
