West Bengal erupts in Protests over R G Kar Hospital Incident: CBI Launches Investigations

West Bengal is witnessing tense situation following the rape and murder incident at R G Kar Hospital in Kolkata. Bharatiya Janata Party called for a road blockade for two hours today, while Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) called for a 12 hours strike, demanding justice for the victim. Police have arrested many bandh supporters.

 

In Kolkata, chief minister Mamata Banerjee has participated in a rally demanding speedy trial and justice for the rape and murder victim of R G Kar Medical College. She accused BJP and Left for the vandalism at R G Kar Medical College on 14th August night. Kolkata Police have arrested 25 persons so far in this vandalism. A skirmish had broken out at Shyambazar area of Kolkata between BJP supporters and police today. Party’s state president and unioun minister of state for education Sukanto Majumdar was present at the spot. Students and alumni of Presidency University and ST Xaviers University have also taken out rallies in the evening in Kolkata today.

 

Meanwhile, CBI is interrogating the former Medical Superintendent and Vice Principal MSVP Dr. Sanjay Vashist, former principal Dr Sandip Ghosh and Head of Chest department Dr. Arunava Dutta Choudhury at CGO Complex at Salt Lake in Kolkata. Another team of the Central Bureau of Investigation CBI is at the R G Kar Medical College.
