Wayanad: Arrangements made to bury 8 unidentified bodies at Puththumala

Arrangements have been made to bury eight unidentified bodies at Puththumala in Wayanad, Kerala tonight. The bodies will be brought from Meppady to the burial site at Puththumala, situated about 15 km away. Although more bodies were planned to be interred initially at the site, the authorities decided to restrict it to eight, after the body of a young woman was identified by her relatives this afternoon. Trenches have been prepared on a plot belonging to Harrisons Malayalam Plantations Ltd. for the mass burial. All religion prayers are arranged as part of the last rites.

Meanwhile, the armed forces-led search operations continued for the sixth day today. One body was recovered from Nilambur in Malappuram, while the dismembered parts of another was retrieved near Soochippara waterfalls. The authorities carried out Drone -based Intelligent Buried Objects Detection System to find more bodies in the region. Contour maps are also being prepared to study the post-landslide changes in the area.
