The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with the Media and Entertainment Association of India, has officially launched the WAVES Anime and Manga Contest (WAM). This contest is a part of the Create in India Challenge, aiming to nurture local talent and tap into the growing interest in Japanese manga and anime among Indian audiences. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the Create in India Challenge—Season One in New Delhi last month.
Talking about the potential of webtoons, anime, and manga in India and the world, the Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Sanjay Jaju, said that this contest has the capability of elevating a country’s talent on a global stage.
WAM features three categories, with each category offering a unique platform for creative expression. Participants can compete individually or in teams of up to four people, with separate categories for students and professionals. The event is structured at two levels: state-level competitions across eleven cities of the country and a national-level finale. Registration is open on WAM’s website, and participation is free of charge for all categories.
