War of words between AAP, BJP escalates on Yamuna water issue ahead of Delhi polls

Ahead of assembly polls in Delhi, the war of words between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and BJP have escalated in the national capital on the Yamuna water issue. BJP has hit back at the ruling AAP over its allegation against the Haryana Government that it is poisoning the water of Yamuna coming to the national capital. BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi told the media that the Delhi Jal Board itself has dismissed the allegation which shows that the Aam Aadmi Party is trying to make baseless charges against the government of the neighbouring state.

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit also took a dig at AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal over the issue. He said, Mr Kejriwal should explain what kind of poison was there in the water.

Meanwhile, senior AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has written to the Chief Election Commissioner on the issue of Ammonia level in Yamuna. She said the note of the CEO of Delhi Jal Board makes it clear that the DJB Water Treatment Plants are designed to treat ammonia only up to one part per million ppm level. She said, the note also points to the fact that the ammonia levels have steadily increased in the water coming from Haryana to Delhi through River Yamuna due to mixing of untreated sewage or industrial waste from Haryana with levels rising over 7 ppm in the last two days.
