US stocks displayed a mixed trend on Monday, with investors worried about an economic slowdown and rising inflation as US President Donald Trump stood firm on tariffs, warning he could further increase levies on China.
In early trade, all three major indices touched their lowest levels in more than a year. In the morning they had briefly rallied sharply on a report about a pause in tariffs but fell again after the report was denied by White House officials. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell over 0.9 percent, and the S&P 500 lost 0.23 percent, while the Nasdaq Composite rose slightly by 0.1 percent.
