Voting is underway for the by-polls in 13 Assembly seats across seven states West Bengal, Punjab, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The polling began at 7 am. The results of the Assembly by-polls will be declared on the 13th of July.
In Tamilnadu, brisk polling is reported in the by-poll for the Assembly Constituency at Vikravandi today. The constituency was vacant after the death of DMK Legislator N.Pugazhenthi on 6th April this year. According to the available statistics, almost 50.95 percent of votes were polled at 1 pm. A total of 29 candidates are in the fray.
In Bihar, polling is underway at a slow pace for by-election in the Rupauli assembly constituency in the Purnea district. Rainfall in several parts has disrupted the voting process. 39.36 percent polling was recorded in the constituency till 1 pm. Polling is underway peacefully amid tight security.
In Madhya Pradesh, voting for the byelection to the Amarwara assembly seat in Chhindwara district is going on peacefully today. So far, about 51.98 percent of voting has been reported. A total of 332 polling stations have been set up in Amarwara, where about 2 lakh 57 thousand voters are exercising their franchise. Voting will continue till 6:00 pm.
In Uttarakhand, bye-elections are going on peacefully in the Badrinath assembly seat of Chamoli district and Mangalore assembly seat of Haridwar district. Till 1 am, 33 percent voting has been recorded in the Badrinath seat and 43.88 percent voting has been recorded in the Mangalore seat.
In Punjab, the voting for by-election in the Jalandhar West reserved assembly constituency is underway. 34.40 percent of voting was recorded till 1 AM. The polling will continue till 6 p.m.
In West Bengal, voting is going peacefully in by-elections for all four assembly seats. There is no report of major incidents of violence from any of the assembly constituencies. 35.66 percent voting was recorded in Bagda, 41.38 percent in Raiganj, 33.37 percent in Maniktala and 42.19 percent in Ranaghat Dakshin when the reports last came in.
In Himachal Pradesh, smooth and peaceful voting is underway for the by-elections in three assembly constituencies Dehra, Hamirpur and Nalagarh today. As per the information received, the highest voting percentage was recorded in Nalagarh at 51.59 percent followed by 47.05 percent in Hamirpur and 46.47 percent in Dehra. The counting of votes will take place on July 13.
Meanwhile, a six-member election commission team, headed by Senior Deputy Election Commissioners Nitesh Vyas and Dharmendra Sharma, is reaching Ranchi this evening for a two-day tour to Jharkhand to review election preparedness in the state. Jharkhand assembly election is due to be held later this year.
