The voting for the Lok Sabha elections in Ladakh is scheduled to take place during the fifth phase of the polls on the 20th of May. This marks the region’s first independent polling for a single seat having previously been a constituency under the Jammu and Kashmir State.

April 26 is the notification date for the Ladakh Lok Sabha seat. The last day for filing nominations is the 3rd of May while the last day for withdrawal of nominations is the 6th of May. Ladakh holds the distinction of being India’s largest constituency in terms of area. Strategically it shares borders with Pakistan along the line of control (LOC) and China along the line of actual control (LAC) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Indian National Congress (INC)are the two main national parties contesting for the lone seat of Ladakh. Still, none of the parties have announced their candidature to date. The Ladakh Lok Sabha seat is spread over Leh and Kargil districts. It has a total number of 182571 electors, of which 91703 are male and 90867 are female voters. For these voters, the Ladakh administration has set up 577 polling stations. Special arrangements like pick and drop and requests for wheelchairs and others from the Saksham App are made available for Divyang and 85+ electors of the Ladakh parliamentary constituency. These voters can also avail of voting from home facilities. In the 2019 elections, the Ladakh constituency witnessed a notable voter turnout of 76.4 per cent The chief electoral officer of UT Ladakh is arranging various programmes to spread awareness amongst the general and first-time voters in particular.
