In Kerala, Vidyarambham ceremonies are being held across the state today. Vidyarambham symbolises a child’s first step towards knowledge and learning. Many people also start taking dance and music lessons on this day. At many locations, teachers, authors, scholars, or a senior member of the family led the initiation ceremonies by writing on the child’s tongue with a honey-dipped golden ring or making the child write on a rice-filled platter.

 

 

Besides households, Vidyarambham ceremonies were held at Thunchan Prambu at Tirur and also at several temples, including Panachikkadu, Chottanikkara, Paravur, and Attukal. Over the years, the ceremony has acquired a secular dimension in Kerala, with people belonging to other religious beliefs also opting to initiate children into the world of letters on Vidyarambham day.
