Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasizes on participation of every citizen in water conservation

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has emphasized on the participation of every citizen in water conservation. He said that along with water management, people will also need to focus on optimal utilization of natural resources like water and electricity.  Mr Dhankhar was addressing after inaugurating the two days international conference on dam safety organized in Jaipur today.  The Vice President said that the country has 18 percent of the world's population, but only 4 percent of water, hence natural resources like water and electricity will have to be used very thoughtfully. 

Vice-president said that water management and dams have a long history in the country and they have been a part of our culture.  He said that excellent work is being done for the safety of dams in the country.  He stressed the need for conservation and redevelopment of small water bodies for water management.  Mr Dhankhar stressed upon ending the water disputes between the states.

Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that after introduction of Dam Safety Law in the country, annual audit of more than 6 thousand dams of the country have been started.  He said that in the coming times, the country will play an effective role in the world in the area of dam safety. 

More than 800 national and international experts, academia and stakeholders are taking part in the two days conference.
