Veteran actor Debraj Roy passed away at the age of 69 in Kolkata yesterday. He made significant contributions to Bengali cinema and Doordarshan and was also associated with Akashvani. Debraj Roy made his cinematic debut in Satyajit Ray’s Pratidwandi in 1970, and the following year, he became a household name with his outstanding performance in Mrinal Sen’s Calcutta 71. He collaborated with renowned directors such as Tarun Majumdar, Bibhuti Laha, and Tapan Sinha.

Apart from films, Roy was a popular newsreader for DDK Kolkata and his voice captivated radio audiences in numerous dramas on Akashvani Kolkata as well. Debraj Roy had been suffering from kidney-related ailments and breathed his last at a private hospital in Kolkata.
