Uttarakhand: 3 NH leading to Chardham, roads connecting to villages blocked due to landslides following rain

In Uttarakhand, as many as 3 National Highways leading to Chardham, and many other circuit roads connecting to villages have been blocked due to landslides following the rain since last night. AIR Correspondent reports that Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri National Highways have been blocked for vehicular traffic due to multiple landslides at various places.
 
Moderate to heavy rains have been lashing most parts of the state since last night, as a result of which around 150 roads connecting villages in the upper reaches have been blocked for movement due to landslides at various places. The Gangotri National Highway near Maneri and  hailgugaad, while the Yamunotri National Highway near Jhar Jhar band has been blocked by debris. On the other hand, Badrinath National Highway is blocked for movement due to landslides in Pipalkoti, Chhinka, Nandprayag and Bajpur. Efforts are being made on a war footing to open all these routes.
 
Due to heavy rains in many parts, the major rivers of the state are again in spate. In Pauri district, 3,000 cusecs of water has been released from the Srinagar dam as the Alaknanda river is flowing above the warning level. The district administrations of Pauri, Tehri, Haridwar and Dehradun have been asked to alert the people living near the banks of the rivers. Meanwhile, the State Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain at isolated places in the state over the next two days.
