Today is the holy day of Mahashivratri in the month of Shravan. Devotees from across the country are reaching  Shiva temples on this auspicious day in the state of Uttar Pradesh.  It is believed that reciting Shiva Vrat Katha on this day brings happiness and prosperity for the devotees.

The Kashi Vishwanath Jyotrlinga in Varanasi Uttar Pradesh has special significance for worshippers of Lord Shiva. Since morning devotees are offering “Jalaabhishek” and doing ‘Rudraabhishek” puja while   chanting hyms of Har Har Mahadev.  On this auspicious occasion, message of environment protection is also being given to the people visiting the Kashi vishwanath temple by Namami Gange.  The karwariyas from various parts of the country are walking long distances to bring the holy water of river ganga for offering to Lord Shiva.  Officials in various districts of Uttar Pradesh like meerut, Bagpat, Saharanpur, muzzafarnagar are honouring the kawariyas  by showering flower petals from helicopters. The Augharnath temple of meerut, the pura mahadev temple of Bagpat, Vasudev Tirth Sthal in Amroha and various other temples in Uttar Pradesh are witnessing crowds for puja and darshan of Lord Shiva. The state government has ensured adequate arrangements for the security and facility for the smooth conduct of the kawarn yatra that will continue throughout the month of Shravan.
