The United States Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS) under Department of Labour yesterday reported that the unemployment rate edged down to 4 percent in January, lowest since May 2024. Major unemployment decline was observed in the mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction industries. However, job gains occurred in health care, retail trade, and social assistance. The report also revealed 55 lakh people are currently not in the labour force who want a job. Moreover, the total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 1 lakh 43 thousand during last month.
