US stocks fell yesterday, as investors focused on corporate earnings and a gauge set of macroeconomic data, including strong retail sales numbers in December and a more than-expected increase in the jobless claims for the previous week, which largely remained at levels consistent with a healthy labour market. The Nasdaq Composite shed almost 0.9 percent, the S&P 500 fell 2.1 percent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.16 percent. The market is also focusing on President-elect Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony on January 20 and prospects of future rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve.
