US stocks ended in positive territory on Friday after comments from US President Donald Trump provided hope that previously announced tariffs expected to begin in early April may not be as burdensome as feared. Donald Trump said there will be flexibility on tariffs and that his top trade chief plans to speak with his Chinese counterpart next week.
The Nasdaq Composite gained 92 points, or 0.52, to end at 17,784. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended nearly flat to settle at 41,985, and the S&P 500 also finished nearly flat to close at 5,667.
During the week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.2 percent, the S&P 500 gained half a percent, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.17 percent. It was the largest weekly gain for the Dow Jones Industrial Average in two months, while the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 managed to snap four weeks of declines.
