The US embassy in Kyiv said it would be closed today after it received specific information of a potential significant air attack. Air raid sirens were activated in the city several times overnight. The Greek and Spanish embassies in Kyiv are also closed today for security reasons.
Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a new nuclear doctrine, lowering the threshold for a nuclear strike. This decision was made in response to U.S. President Joe Biden’s approval of allowing Ukraine to target deep inside Russia with American-made long-range missiles.
The US has also approved sending anti-personnel mines to Ukraine for the first time, signalling another major policy shift. Meanwhile, Ukraine hit a Russian weapons arsenal with the ATACMS missiles, which it fired across the border for the first time.
