The US Embassy in Dhaka has issued a security alert for US nationals residing in Bangladesh. A statement issued on its official website, US Embassy in Dhaka said that due to the unpredictable nature of the protests and the government response, U.S. citizens should practice vigilance and avoid demonstrations and exercise caution in the vicinity of any large gatherings.

If feeling unsafe, U.S. citizens should consider returning to the United States, the Statement said. Bangladesh is currently on Do Not Travel advisory, it added.
