US: Democratic Party leaders asked President Joe Biden to quit presidential election race

United States President Joe Biden is facing increasing pressure to quit the presidential election race as he tested positive for COVID-19. The influential Democratic Party leader and representative for California, Adam Schiff, has publicly asked President Biden to quit the race. ABC News reported that another senior leader, Chuck Schumer, the Senate majority leader and the most senior Democrat in Congress, had told Biden that it would be better for the country and the Democratic Party if the president ended his re-election campaign following concern over his age-related health and fitness issues.

The Democratic Party has picked Mr. Biden to face his Republican challenger, Donald Trump, in the November election. Meanwhile, at the ongoing national convention of the Republican Party in Milwaukee, Mr. Trump’s running mate and vice presidential candidate, J.D. Vance, urged voters to choose a new path. Mr. Vance was introduced to the Republican National Convention last night by his Indian-origin wife, Ms. Usha Vance. Mr. Trump will address the Republican National Convention tonight. Donald Trump and J. D. Vance will face the Democratic ticket of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 5 election.
