US Attorney General Merrick Garland appoints Special Counsel David Weiss for Hunter Biden probe

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has announced the appointment of Special Counsel David Weiss in the ongoing investigation of Hunter Biden, the son of Us President Joe Biden. Mr.David Weiss said, immediately following yesterday's promotion into that position, in a sign that judicial drama may have a significant influence on the 2024 presidential election.

A trial might result in an unprecedented spectacle in the history of the United States.  Whereas, the president's son could be prosecuted as his father runs for re-election, perhaps against Donald Trump, a Republican who has at least three upcoming criminal prosecutions of his own.

Republicans in the House of Representatives are also threatening to launch an impeachment investigation into unsubstantiated allegations that President Biden profited from the business ventures of his son. Hunter Biden has been the subject of an investigation by Mr. Weiss since 2019. In June, he filed misdemeanor charges involving taxes and firearms. Yesterday, Mr. Weiss claimed in a court document that negotiations between the two parties had ended. The government now thinks that a trial is necessary to conclude the case.
