The United States and Italy hailed the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor as one of the greatest economic integration and connectivity projects of this century. In a joint statement, they said the corridor will connect partners and stimulate economic development and integration from India to the Gulf to Israel, to Italy, onward to the United States.
A Joint Leaders’ Statement was issued after US President Donald Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s first official meeting held in Washington.
The statement said that the US and Italy will work together to develop the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor connecting partners by ports, railways, and undersea cables and stimulating economic development.
The two leaders also resolved to promote a mutually beneficial relationship and further strengthen the US-Italy strategic alliance across security, economic, and technological issues.
It is worth recalling that the multi-modal connectivity project was formalised by MoU signed between India, European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, UAE and the United States at the G20 Summit in New Delhi on 9th September 2023.
