Shri Krishna Janmashtami is being celebrated with much fanfare in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Today at Midnight, the ritualistic birth of Lord Krishna will be organised in temples and homes across the state. It is the 5251th birth anniversary of Lord Krishna.

In Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, devotees have been worshipping Krishna Janambhoomi since yesterday and chants of ‘Haathi Ghoda Palki, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki’ are reverberating in all temples of the Braj area. Lakhs of devotees from across the globe are visiting the Banke Bihari, Dwarkadhish, Prem and Iskcon temples of Mathura and Vrindavan.

Pooja is also being performed in all Krishna temples in the state including the Aadi Keshav temple of Varanasi and ancient Baldau and Radha Krishna temple of Hamirpur. Special enthusiasm of devotees is being witnessed in the Ramdhol procession that is being taken out in Amroha. Muslim artisans making flutes from Philibit have sent flutes to Mathura as a symbol of communal harmony while Cow shelters have also been decorated at various places in the state and cows are being worshipped on this occasion. The festival of Janmashtami is also being celebrated with grandeur in all the police lines and police stations in the state.

Earlier this morning, Chief Minister Yogi Aadityanath offered prayers at Shri Krishna Janamsthan and planted a rudraksha tree in Mathura.
