Union Tourism Minister and BJP state President G Kishan Reddy took out a bike rally from Secunderabad to Parkala in Warangal district yesterday ahead of the Liberation Day celebrations to be observed tomorrow. Party election in-charge Prakash Javadekar flagged off the rally at Secunderabad parade grounds. Carrying BJP flags and raising slogans, the participants covered a distance of 300 km and culminated in a public meeting at Parkala. Addressing a public meeting at Parkala, the BJP State president demanded the State government to officially celebrate the 17th of September as Telangana Liberation Day and include lessons on martyrs in the textbooks.
Meanwhile, the Centre will observe tomorrow as Telangana Liberation Day, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be participating in the main function to be held at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad to mark the occasion. He will review a parade by the armed forces.
The Telangana State government will be celebrating tomorrow as National Integration Day. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will be hoisting the national flag at the main official function to be held at Public Gardens in Hyderabad. The National Integration Day will also be celebrated in all the districts, where State Ministers or district collectors will unfurl the national flag.
It was on the 17th of September in 1948 that the then princely state of Hyderabad, comprising present Telangana and parts of Karnataka and Maharashtra, acceded to the Indian Union following a police action against Nizam’s Army.
