Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi launches revamped website of Archaeological Survey of India

Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs, Meenakshi Lekhi launched the revamped website of the Archaeological Survey of India, in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed for ‘Adopt a Heritage 2.0’ by seven private entities and ASI for the preservation of 14 historical monuments.

Addressing the gathering, Ms. Lekhi called upon stakeholders to increase the utility of historical sites by converting them into livable places. She underscored that monuments can play a pivotal role in the economic growth of the country. Ms. Lekhi further added that the enormous history cannot be solely preserved by one entity, the contribution of the entire society is required. She focused on the role of the corporate sector in contributing to the preservation of heritage. Recalling the clarion call of Prime Minister Modi for ‘Vikas Bhi aur Virasat Bhi,’ the Minister said that digitization is an ally of progress and preservation of cultural heritage. Ms. Lekhi also emphasized the need to adopt new technology and understand the importance of carrying forward Indian traditions by everyone.

Secretary of the Culture Ministry, Govind Mohan mentioned that the journey of corporate sector to be part of preserving the cultural heritage of India is unprecedented. He emphasised on the role of citizens in the initiative to convert historic monuments into cultural spaces.

‘Adopt a Heritage 2.0’ under the Ministry of Culture is a scheme aimed at increasing awareness and preservation of Indian cultural heritage along with encouraging the adoption of monuments by private entities.
