Union Minister Lalan Singh Sets Ambitious Fish Export Target of ₹1.20 Lakh Crore

Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy Rajiv Ranjan Singh, alias Lalan Singh, today said his department has set a target of fish exports of 1.20 lakh crore rupees from the country in the coming years. Mr. Singh said currently India is exporting fish worth over 60,000 crore rupees, which is double in the figure with comparison to 2014. He said India is in second place in terms of fish production in the world and striving to become number one.

Addressing a workshop in Patna on the application of drone technology in the fisheries sector, Mr. Singh said UAVs can play a crucial role in the fisheries and aquaculture. The Union Minister said due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s special endeavour, the production of fish has also increased to 175 lakh metric tonnes, which was around 90 lakh metric tonnes ten years ago.

He said the PM Matsya Sampada Yojna (PMMSY) has turned around the whole fisheries sector in the country due to technological interventions and other support.
