Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya today launched in New Delhi, the National Policy on Research and Development and Innovation in the Pharma-MedTech Sector in India. The Minister also launched the scheme for the promotion of Research and Innovation in the Pharma MedTechSector. The scheme is aimed at developing India as a global hub for Pharma and MedTech industry. It will also establish centers of excellence in seven National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mandaviya stressed on transforming the country’s pharma and medical devices manufacturing sector by shifting from a cost-based to a value and innovation-based ecosystem. He also highlighted the need for mass production of pharmaceutical products and medical devices. The Minister said, the country can achieve self-reliance in pharmaceuticals and medical devices only by strengthening its research and development infrastructure. The Minister announced that as a part of new policy, a centralized dashboard will be created which will store information about upcoming innovations and research.
