Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur on Sunday felicitated Fit India Quiz 2022 State round winners in Mumbai. He informed that 3.25 crore rupees will be given out as cash award to schools and students under the quiz. At the felicitation ceremony, the state-level winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates. Mr Thakur exhorted them to take up some fitness activity apart from their academic curriculum.
The Sports Minister said the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi lays a strong emphasis on sports, adding that the budget for sports has been increased three times. He added that it is the result of the government's efforts that Indian players have been performing brilliantly at various international events, including the Olympics.
The 2nd edition of the Fit India National Fitness and Sports Quiz for Schools was launched on 29th August last year on the eve of the National Sports Day. 61,981 students from 16,702 schools across 702 districts of India participated in it. Mr Thakur said there was a 70 per cent increase in the number of students participating in the second edition of the quiz which covers a wide range of topics related to India's rich sporting history, fitness, and nutrition.
