Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur launches first season of “Swaraj” on OTT platform Amazon Prime

Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Singh Thakur launched the first season of “Swaraj” on OTT platform Amazon Prime, in Mumbai today. ‘Sardar: The Game Changer’, a new serial based on the life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel that will be broadcast on Doordarshan was also launched on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Thakur said it is a moment of pride and a true tribute to all those unsung great heroes of our independence who sacrificed everything for the country. He informed that the serial was commissioned by taking inspiration from the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” national campaign of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking further on the importance of being proud of one’s own rich history, Shri Thakur said, those who do not take pride in their rich historical legacy can never create a great future. He said if we want to create a great future for the country, then we will have to instill pride in the young generation about our great history.
Union I & B Minister stated that the Government wants to facilitate the Media & Entertainment sector to thrive and achieve greater heights on an international scale. He highlighted initiatives like Ease of Doing Business for the film industry, schemes like “Single window clearance” for film shooting In India, and various other incentives. He urged all to create good content in Indian languages and stated that language is not a barrier for a global audience in today’s hyper-connected world.

Addressing mediapersons ahead of the launch Chief Executive Officer of Prasar Bharati Gaurav Dwivedi said that Doordarshan’s effort is to take this inspiring and popular serial to a wide audience, especially the youth, through OTT. In this direction, we are happy to tie up with Amazon Prime which will take this story of the unsung sons of our nation to the youth.

Country Director, Prime Video Sushant Sreeram, Producer of ‘Swaraj’, Abhimanyu Singh, and others were present on the occasion.
